Interested in HGV/LGV Training in Manchester? HGV or heavy goods vehicle, more recently called LGV or large goods vehicle, training is provided to drivers who wish to earn a living driving trucks or lorries. A future professional truck or lorry driver can choose from one of four HGV licences. The Category C licence allows you to drive vehicles that weigh more than 3,500 kg and with a trailer with a maximum weight of 750 kg. The Category C+E licence is for Category C drivers whose vehicles have trailers that weigh more than 750 kg. Another licence, the Category C1 licence is for driving vehicles with a weight of 3,500 kg to 7,500 kg and a trailer may also be towed as long as it doesn’t weigh over 750 kg. Lastly, the Category C1+E licence is for drivers of Category C1 vehicles with the difference being that the trailer weighs over 750 kg but the combined weight of the vehicle and the trailer cannot exceed 12,000 kg.
HGV or LGV training is vital for students who wish to be equipped with the right knowledge and skills especially on driving laws, techniques and safety procedures. The training also increases the chances of successfully passing the tests on the first attempt. Training begins with a medical examination, followed by a learning module from the training provider for the Theory Test, and then the Theory test itself from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency or DVLA. Afterwards, the training provider conducts a driving demonstration assessment to determine the extent of training the student needs and then facilitates the training programme to help prepare the student for the practical test. The final step is to take the driving skills practical test conducted by the DVLA.
